INTERPRETING SCIENCE FICTION AS (ALSO) ETHNOGRAPHY, AND VICE VERSA

Abstract

The last decades of the 20th century saw a proliferation of writing on the nature of ethnographic texts. Simultaneously, cultural and literary theorists have immersed into analyzing the science fiction genre and placing it into social, cultural, and political contexts. However, considerations of the relationship between these types of texts in terms of concepts, theories and meta-narratives, were much less frequent. Therefore, this paper aims to consider the Sci-Fi literature as a form of anthropological writing, on the basis of the possibility of reception of both anthropological and Sci-Fi texts by the lay audience, as well as its implications.
