Abstract

The aim of this paper is to place the funeral of Serbian prime minister Zoran Djindjic in conceptual framework of Turner’s "social drama". Following a brief introduction to Turner’s concepts, a short descriptive pattern of the funeral will be presented. In order to define the messages of the ritual, it has been evaluated through the overall context within which it took place. As the event itself is defined as a potential "trigger" of the crisis, the ultimate message delivered by its enactment is restoration of disturbed social balance and recuperation of community’s integrativity.
