Abstract

In the early 1950’s in the United States, a number of books which offered the members of the middle class directions to a successful realization of personal and business interests appeared. On the other hand, since 1945, the West (North America and Europe), was flooded with new forms of religiousness and spirituality. At the same time, the individual and his or her personal growth come to the fore and occupy an important place in both the extant and newly formed religions. The aim of this paper is to, starting with the official websites of the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints – the Mormon Church and the Church of Scientology, isolate the models of individual success based on religious doctrine and practice, as well as to point out whether and in what way being a member of a religion can influence the advancement of individuals in society.
